SIX THINGS

DAUGHTERS OF SAPPHO

Six antiques. Six poets. One epic poem.

Directed and curated by Louis de Bernières, Six

Things presents a series of characters who form

an unwitting interpersonal circle through the

antique objects that have come into their

possession. Written by Louis de Bernières, Jill Abram, Mary Mulholland, Kathy Pimlott, Clarissa Aykroyd and Ellen McAteer. Commissioned by Poetry Plays.

DAUGHTERS OF SAPPHO

DAUGHTERS OF SAPPHO

With inspiration of Sappho’s timeless poetry,

four friends find a shared sense of belonging through sound, movement and

words. A journey of free improvisation, bringing life to Greek traditional music - Georges Aperghis, Angelique Lonatos and beyond.

Performed by soprano Theano

Papadaki, violist Alkatis Misouli, dancer Sofia Filippou and accordionist Alisa Silina. Commissioned by Poetry Plays.

UNFINISHED FINISHED

PLACES I NEVER THINK ABOUT

A Poetry Plays commission to celebrate the posthumous publication of Kafka's unfinished novel The Castle. Poet and dramatist Charlie Kite steps into the silence imagining possible endings to Kafka's labyrinth.  The result is a dark, witty return to a landscape of shifting power and nightmare bureaucracy. Performed by Pietro Cannizzaro and Hadrian Conyngham.

PLACES I NEVER THINK ABOUT

PLACES I NEVER THINK ABOUT

Transit’s stunningly inventive queer reclaiming and retelling of European folklore, after successful runs at the Brighton Festival and Omnibus Theatre. Joyous, dark, playful and profoundly moving work that’s bursting with energy. In Places I Never Think About, Transit shows how we can draw on and celebrate tradition and still be inclusive and progressive. Performed by Rebeka Dio, Olga Kunicka, Elaine Hua Jones, Irina Anghel and Billie Grace.

LIFE CLASS

PAPER CRUSADE

Artists painting what they hear -

naked poetry - in this crossdisciplinary

experiment. Saili Katebe plays

with language and improvisation as his poetry is captured on canvas. Commissioned by Poetry Plays and performed in

real time by painters Aurelie Freoua,

Mark Baldwin and Natalie Webb.

PAPER CRUSADE

PAPER CRUSADE

Knocked unconscious after a fall, a theatre technician dreams of an island with perpetual sun, a pop-up grimoire, and a dark father figure with terrible intent. Surreal, gothic metatheatre adapted by Michelle Penn from her collection Paper Crusade (Arachne Press) itself a reimagining of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Performed by Michelle Penn, Jan Wood and  Eloïse Frey.

RITE

New choreography from Mark Baldwin OBE, Rite revisits the seismic legacy of Igor Stravinsky's Sacre du Printemps, inspired by Baldwin's conversations with composer Hans Werner Henze. Part memoir, part meditation on ritual and sacrifice, the work blends music, movement and theatrical poetry. Performed by Mark Baldwin, Nahum Mclean and Eryck Brahmania.

HOURS

Two people, trapped by the endlessness of an imagined desert landscape.

Hours explores the sensation of trying to move forward without knowing how. It delves into feelings of being lost, directionless and exhausted, while centering how human connectivity can help carry us through an ongoing, uncertain journey. Concept and text by Rachel Elderkin. Performed by Maya Orchin and Sara Augieras.

FIRST THOUGHT BEST THOUGHT
